The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

Who we are
We are a Christian Mission based in the recycling community of Tondo dumpsite and surrounding areas. We have had the privilege of working here since 2007. Tondo is the largest slum area within Manilas and it faces some of the most extraordinary economic and social challenges. Our mission is to bring the faith, hope and love of Jesus with practical support to those affected by the injustice of poverty in the Philippines.
“Kalayaan” means freedom in Tagalog (the official Pilipino language) and we work to see that families and communities find freedom from the strongholds of financial poverty.
Our logo is a symbol of metamorphosis, our aim is transformation.

TESTIMONIES
When I first went to Tondo I had planned at the end of the six months to go to live in Italy, where I had a house I could rent. But half way through my six months I knew I wanted to come to Tondo again and continue volunteering alongside the team at Kalayaan Community Ministries. Yes, it's subject to floods in the rainy season, it's smelly, full of rats, sad looking cats, cockroaches, but after a while you don't see any of that you just see those lovely people. It's a privilege to see how God is working amongst them, through Ron, Joanna and the team. (more…)

We have heard of the tremendous work that God is doing through ‘Kalayaan Community Ministries’ in Tondo for a few years now; and it was an absolute privilege to have the opportunity to work alongside these ‘Heroes in the Faith’ in October 2018. From the first moment it was very clear that we had come to a family. The way they loved each other and carried responsibility for their community has impacted us in ways that we are still processing. We were so touched by their abandoned worship and incredible love for Jesus that is evident in everything they do! (more…)

“I spent approximately 5 weeks with KCM in the summer of 2016. Without wanting to sound cliché, it was one of the most life-changing experiences I’ve had in life. I flew out to Tondo from England with the expectation of giving everything I had to serve people, battling with culture shock, and to leave drained and looking forward to returning to the comfort zone of my own homeWhat took me most by surprise is that I think the people I met in Tondo ministered more to me than I did to them. The kindness, love and hospitality I was shown by those with far less than me (more…)

I have had the privilege of partnering with KCM in their community feeding ministry for many years. It has been nothing short of an amazing experience as I see how God uses this wonderful team in KCM to work and rebuild the lives of people in Tondo, that are often broken, hurt and vulnerable. I give praise to God as he has continually proven himself faithful as he continues to bless me in finances as I support this work.
One thing I learned in this journey is that God is faithful and generous.
